Yasser Sherif

Sherif has an extensive experience in environmental management, policy formulation, institutional development and training, public administration, cleaner production, industrial compliance, and energy efficiency. As a former senior staff of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) at a critical period of its development (1992-1999), he was closely involved in its organizational building, institutional development, and formulation of environmental policies and management approaches. He formulated and managed a number of policy interventions concerning environmental performance of industry, including the introduction of Compliance Action Plans (CAPs) as a management tool. He has initiated a number of firsts in EEAA, which have opened wider spheres for environmental management, such as hospital waste management, standardization of inspection procedures and self-monitoring practices. Moving to private practice since 1999, he has continuously contributed to the Egyptian environmental scene through devising policies and strategies that cover areas as varied as the impacts of free trade agreements on the environment, the National Cleaner Production strategy, and policy-oriented assessment of Energy Competitiveness in Egypt. He has also supported EEAA in its endeavours towards the decentralization of environmental management, and environmental mainstreaming at the sector and planning levels. Eng. Sherif is currently particularly interested in the field of energy management, where he has been involved in projects spanning from small biomass units to a national level survey of policies and practices, and from the role of cleaner production in industry to the transformation to renewable energy sources. He contributed to the national energy debate, studying the local energy efficiency market, and researching the need and potential for the transition to renewable energy in Egypt.

Amani Nadim

Amani Nadim is a Chemist with solid experience in Environmental Management. Her area of expertise includes hazardous waste management, where she was involved in development of the national hazardous waste management system, in cooperation with EEAA and the different concerned ministries. She has also participated in the preparation and delivery of a large number of training, awareness, and capacity building events for the different components of the hazardous waste management system. Additionally, Chem. Nadim has a long experience in conducting due diligence and phase I and II site assessment investigations for different types of facilities and transactions. Moreover, Chem. Nadim has been involved in the development and preparation of numerous Environmental and Social Impact Assessments studies (ESIA) and public consultation events for various sectors including petrochemicals, oil and gas and fertilizers and, renewable energy. Her expertise extends to carrying out chemical processes hazard and risk analysis. She is trained in risk assessment, with particular emphasis on conducting consequence analysis and Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) studies using SUPECHEMS software developed by ioMosaic Corporation, a leading provider of safety and risk management consulting services in the USA. She has, since then, conducted a number of QRA studies for chemical, petrochemical, and petroleum refining processes.

Mohamed Taha has over 20 years of experience in the fields of environmental management; environmental compliance; waste management; environmental monitoring; monitoring and spill response, and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction. His experience covers different sectors, including: oil and gas; petrochemicals; industry; mining; tourism; infrastructure, and others. Having held the position of Environmental Advisor at BG Egypt for 5 years, Eng. Taha has excellent knowledge of the oil and gas industry. Additionally, he has been an environmental consultant for over 13 years, carrying out numerous environmental studies: Environmental Assessments, Public Consultations, Audits and Reviews in accordance with national and international laws and guidelines. Eng. Taha’s specific experience in the oil and experience encompasses: conducting and implementing environmental monitoring programs (covering marine, groundwater, air quality and noise environments; carrying out several field investigations within Egypt and abroad, using a variety of field equipment, as well as supervising a number of detailed marine field surveys, which included bathymetric surveys, collection of water and sediment samples for onsite and laboratory analyses of chemical and biological indicators and current measurements. He participated in many surveys on cetacean such as sperm whales survey in the eastern part of Mediterranean with Song of The Whale vessel by IFAW. Mr. Fouad was the Mentor of Egypt in the MedPAN Souty – WWF Mediterranean Regional Project (2010-2012). He has recently been chosen to join the board of directors of MedPAN Association in 2013. He has also participated in establishing the national action plan for cetacean conservation in Mediterranean in Egypt between 2012 – 2016.
