Mr. Hafez was the former Chief Executive Officer of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency from 1991-1997. He played a pivotal role in establishing the environmental policy in Egypt, and in developing the agency through extending its institutional responsibilities and strengthening its organizational structure and capacity. He has managed the formulation and early implementation of Law 4/1994, the first Law of the Environment in Egypt and supervised the formulation of the Egyptian Environmental Action Plan. In addition, he is a professional explorationist with over 40 years experience in the petroleum industry in Egypt and overseas. He was the former Vice Chairman for Exploration and Petroleum Agreements and Board Member at the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC). Mr. Hafez has extended experience in the fields of environment, energy and petroleum.
