EIA for Groundwater Desalination Plant Project (Phases I & II) in Ain Sokhna

Share:
  • Due to the increase in industrial development plans and decrease of pure water resources in the area located west of the Gulf of Suez, and to the west of Ain Sokhna Port in Suez Governorate, Suez Industrial Development Company (SIDC) planned to extract and desalinate the groundwater available in the region for industrial use in development projects, by constructing a groundwater desalination plant comprising of 4 phases, using the Reverse Osmosis technology.
  • SIDC commissioned Environics to prepare a Scoped (B) Environmental Impact Assessment Study for the proposed groundwater desalination plant project (phases one and two).
  • The EIA study provided a description of the project, its objectives, components and different processes, as well as presented the legal environmental framework relevant to the project.
  • In addition, the study examined the baseline environment in the project area, analyzed project’s alternatives, assessed potential environmental impacts and recommended the proper mitigation measures, as well as provided the Environmental Management & Monitoring Plan.
