- “Green Growth: Industrial Waste Management and SME Entrepreneurship Hub in Egypt” (IWEX) is a project funded by the MENA Transition Fund through the African Development Bank (AfDB). The project is to be implemented by the Industrial Council for Technology and Innovation – Ministry of Trade and Industry through ENCPC. Component II of the project aims at “Developing policy recommendations towards an enabling environment for an industrial waste exchange IWEX scheme”.
- Within the scope of this component, Environics was commissioned to carry out a number of tasks, with the overall objective to provide a basis for upgrading the legislative framework for industrial waste, so as to enhance the implementation of the Industrial Waste Management and SME Entrepreneurship Hub Project in Egypt. Environics tasks and activities included:

- Review of current waste exchange practices for the different types of industrial waste to identify gaps and challenges that need to be addressed.
- Review of current legislation and regulations related to waste management in Egypt.
- Review of International Best Practices in Industrial Waste Exchange.
- Identify barriers restricting the valorization of industrial waste.
- Proposing tools and instruments for efficient operation of the waste exchange platform including, but not limited, to the following:
- Regulatory requirements;
- Technology aspects;
- Market Promotion tools;
- Information tools; and
- Financing tools.
- Host dialogues with stakeholders to identify changes/modifications/declarations necessary for the exchange hub to work probably.
- Prepare a policy brief for industrial waste management in Egypt, to identify existing gaps, and provide recommendations for legislation & regulations needed to enhance them and pave the way for the Industrial Waste Management and SME Entrepreneurship Hub in Egypt.
