Within the scope of the potential acquisition of a Chlor Alkali plant in Port Said, and as part of the necessary due diligence process, an environmental assessment (EA) of the plant was requested to determine the regulatory compliance status of the facility according to the Egyptian standards.
The EA was to also identify the potential for soil and groundwater impacts caused by ongoing and previous site activities, and recommend preventive actions. The client contracted Environmental Resources Management (ERM), assisted by Environics, to conduct the EA.
The site EA involved reviewing available information and conducting field visits and interviews with concerned personnel. Several issues were investigated and recommendations were made concerning the environmental management system; permitting; emissions and water supply; wastewater; storage and chemical management; waste and hazardous management, and risk assessment.
