The Egyptian General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) is running a project to combat pollution and set bases for developed environmental management of the Free Zone, Amereya, Alexandria Governorate.
Within the scope of this project, an EIA was required for one of its components, namely the expansion of the sanitary and industrial wastewater treatment works at Alexandria’s free zone.
The EIA study covered the construction phase of the expansion of the existing treatment plant, which included the civil and mechanical works, in addition to the operation phase.
The EIA discussed the project’s alternatives and recommended the most suitable one, and provided descriptions of the types of wastes and how to dispose of them.
The EIA also detailed the project’s impacts and the means to mitigate them through environmental management and monitoring plans.
