Sokhna Desalination, in cooperation with Artelia France/Chemonics Egypt – the project is ongoing

The project concerns the development of a 1 million m³/day desalination plant (first phase 300,000 m³/day) within Sokhna Port, primarily to supply the green hydrogen hub with desalinated water. The project also considers associated facilities such as distribution networks, main water pipeline, power supply lines, potential renewable energy plants, and brine reuse options.

Environics’ Scope of Work covers: the Environmental and Social Scoping Study to identify key risks/impacts, review policies and regulations, establish TORs for further studies, allocate responsibilities for mitigation, assess regulatory needs (e.g., brine discharge), and estimate mitigation costs.

This is mainly achiever through desk reviews, site visits, and stakeholder meetings, guided by Egyptian laws, IFC standards, EBRD policy, WBG EHS guidelines, and GIIP.

Environics also contributed E&S inputs to the development of bidding documents and framework contract feeding into the implementation phase.
