- Concord Co. for Touristic Development was in the process of establishing a touristic resort project at Marsa Abu Dabbab area, including: hotels, recreational facilities and services (restaurants, health club, lagoons, marina, swimming pools, diving center, passages and green areas).
- The planned project was an integrated tourist center, distant from public and private marinas, and with limited beaches and access to safe deep water. Therefore, Concord wished to increase the project’s water access and fronts.
- Environics contributed to the project’s conceptual development through providing environmental alternatives that minimize negative impacts, while maximizing visitors’ experience, by providing safe water access, marinas, lagoons, and more sandy beaches.
- The Conceptual Development Study comprised:
- Site analysis of ecosystem configuration; description of marine environment; geomorphology; climate; geology; tectonic activity; topology, and hydrology and flood analysis, as well as man-made systems.
- Opportunities, constraints, and threats.
- Proposed alternatives, which presented several options for project components and estimated costs for interventions, such as dredging.
- Mitigation measures.
- Restoration and rehabilitation.
- Monitoring.
- Scenarios, analysis, and assessment.
- Consultation with regulators.
- Conclusive recommendations.
