Environics provided technical support to El Nasr Co. for Intermediate Chemicals (NCIC) in relation to the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
The support focused on building internal capacity through targeted on-the-job training for a selected NCIC team. Key areas covered included:
- Compliance requirements for exporting nitrogen-based fertilizers to the EU under CBAM regulations.
- Methodologies for estimating embedded CO₂ emissions in ammonia and other NCIC products.
- Analysis of the financial implications of CBAM costs, considering both current free allowances and their progressive phase-out by 2035.
As part of the engagement, Environics also supported NCIC in outlining a decarbonization roadmap, including short-, medium-, and long-term projects to reduce emissions. The assignment was delivered through technical workshops, training sessions, and a comprehensive report detailing emission estimates, mitigation strategies, and associated CBAM-related costs.
