Environmental and Social Due Diligence for a Greenfield Petrochemicals Production Project, Ain Sokhna

  • A petrochemicals company was in the process of developing a greenfield petrochemicals complex in Sokhna.  The complex will consist of: Naphtha cracker; Associated derivatives units; Polyethylene and polypropylene units; offsite facilities, including a jetty expansion and connecting pipelines; and utilities, including a power plant and desalination plant.
  • Additionally, the company was operating a polypropylene facility in  Sokhna that will be integrated in the complex and expanded through adding polypropylene units.
  • AECOM and Environics were commissioned to carry out the ESDD for the above project, to ensure abidance with the requirements and standards of EBRD and IFC through:
    • Review of the proposed E&S standards applicable to the project and establishing the project’s E&S Standards.
    • Review of the E&S documentation including the ESIAs. Management Plans, project planning, proposed project E&S performance, Lender’s ESDD / ESAP, and conduct a media search regarding the project.
    • Undertake a site visit to understand the setting, reviewing existing practice and further exploring the project’s stakeholder engagement activities.
    • Prepare the assessment report including compliance with the EIA requirements/commitments and EBRD and IFC.
