A petrochemicals company was in the process of developing a greenfield petrochemicals complex in Sokhna. The complex will consist of: Naphtha cracker; Associated derivatives units; Polyethylene and polypropylene units; offsite facilities, including a jetty expansion and connecting pipelines; and utilities, including a power plant and desalination plant.
Additionally, the company was operating a polypropylene facility in Sokhna that will be integrated in the complex and expanded through adding polypropylene units.
AECOM and Environics were commissioned to carry out the ESDD for the above project, to ensure abidance with the requirements and standards of EBRD and IFC through:
Review of the proposed E&S standards applicable to the project and establishing the project’s E&S Standards.
Review of the E&S documentation including the ESIAs. Management Plans, project planning, proposed project E&S performance, Lender’s ESDD / ESAP, and conduct a media search regarding the project.
Undertake a site visit to understand the setting, reviewing existing practice and further exploring the project’s stakeholder engagement activities.
Prepare the assessment report including compliance with the EIA requirements/commitments and EBRD and IFC.
