Lekela Power was prequalified for a 250MW Wind Project from the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy to operate within the BOO scheme. The project encompassed connecting Lekela BOO wind farm 250 MW to the existing Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) Ras Ghareb Substation 500/220 kV via a 30 km overhead transmission line and associated substation.

Environics was commissioned by Lekela Power, on behalf of EETC, to prepare a progress report, indicating the status of the project’s environmental and social performance, to fulfill the World Bank (WB) requirement regarding reporting on the project progress during its construction stage. The report covered the OHTL stretch that is running from the Lekela BOO wind farm to the substation.

The main objective was to investigate the construction contractor and subcontractors E&S performance against environmental and social management plan (ESMP) commitments mentioned in the project’s ESIA that has been approved by the World Bank.

Environics scope of work encompassed:

– Review of the available project related documents.
– Interviews with HSE Department.
– Field observation.

The E&S progress report was prepared, including: project description and status, limitations noted during the review, and environmental and social regulatory requirements and standards (National requirements, and the World Bank Environmental and Social Framework). The results of E&S monitoring review were provided, as well as the concluding remarks and the recommended actions to be fulfilled in the upcoming stringing works.
