- The Egyptian General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) is running a project to combat pollution and set bases for developed environmental management of the Free Zone, Amereya, Alexandria Governorate.
- Within the scope of this project, an EIA was required for one of its components, namely the expansion of the sanitary and industrial wastewater treatment works at Alexandria’s free zone.
- The EIA study covered the construction phase of the expansion of the existing treatment plant, which included the civil and mechanical works, in addition to the operation phase.
- The EIA discussed the project’s alternatives and recommended the most suitable one, and provided descriptions of the types of wastes and how to dispose of them.
- The EIA also detailed the project’s impacts and the means to mitigate them through environmental management and monitoring plans.
