EIA for the Use of Wastewater for the Development of Timber Trees Forest, SIDC, Ain Sokhna

Share:
  • The Egyptian Fertilizer Company (EFC), located in SIDC Industrial Zone of Sokhna, consists of two identical plants for production of ammonia and urea. The industrial wastewater generated from the onsite Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is further filtered and used for irrigation of a wooden tree forest beside the EFC site. The Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) requested improvement of the filtration and irrigation system to meet the Egyptian Code for Reuse of Treated Wastewater in Irrigation (501/2005). EFC commissioned Environics to carry out a Scoped Category (B) EIA Study for the developed system.
  • The EIA covered the different project phases, including modification of the wastewater treatment process and plantation/irrigation of 40 feddans, construction activities, operation of the proposed project during normal and emergency situations, and sustainable management of the irrigation area. The EIA also presented a water balance and provided technical details of the plantation design.
