Ornithological Survey of Migratory Birds & Implementation of Shutdown on Demand (SoD) Programme for Spring 2019 at Gabal El-Zeit Wind Power Projects, Gulf of Suez

  • Environics was commissioned by New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) to carry out the Shutdown on Demand programme (SOD) and bird monitoring for spring 2019 at Gabal El-Zeit wind power projects, Gulf of Suez (240, 220 and 120 MW plants that are financed by KfW, JICA and the Spanish Government), in accordance with the protocols for SOD agreed with NREA and the operators of the Wind Farms.
  • The scope of work included:
    • Implementation of the SoD programme using radar, in cooperation with STRIX Company, for the 240 MW plant.
    • Implementation of the SoD programme without radar and carrying out a monitoring survey for migratory bird routes at the 220 MW plant.
    • Implementation of the SoD programme without radar and carrying out a monitoring survey for migratory bird routes at the 120 MW plant.
    • Communication and coordination of field observers with the control room operators of the projects to implement the SoD programme, in accordance with EEAA guidelines.
    • Preparation of periodical and final reports presenting results, conclusions and recommendations, as well as methodology, inputs, gaps & challenges.
