EIA Studies for Hayat’s Plant in Ain Sokhna

2015

  • Environics carried out a scoped EIA Study for the proposed project that aimed at:
    • Determining the Environmental Impacts arising from Hayat plant in Ain Sokhna – Phase I during construction and operation activities.
    • Establishing procedures to maximize the positive impacts of the project.
    • Developing Environmental Management & Monitoring Plan to mitigate the negative environmental impacts.
  • The methodology used to prepare the study was based on completing several activities and reviewing a number of data, studies and reports relevant to the site’s natural, biological, economical and social conditions, as well as reviewing the environmental legal framework regulating such projects.
  • Field visits to project’s site and its surrounding environment was conducted to determine the environmental and social scope of the study.
  • After the scoping process, environmental impacts and sensitive receptors were identified, then a quantitative and/or qualitative assessment was carried out.
  • In the assessment of impacts, local standards were used for reference. In case of their absence, international standards were used.
  • Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan was developed and proper mitigation measures were proposed.

2016

  • Environics carried out an EIA study – Form (B) for the Capacity Increase within  Hayat’s existing Plant in Sokhna, to expand in the production of tissue paper, non-woven fabrics and lamination.
  • The study provided the project description (the construction and operation phases), and the environmental laws and regulations relevant to the project. It also assessed environmental impacts, recommended appropriate mitigation measures for each impact, and developed the Environmental Management Plan.

2017

  • Environics carried out an EIA Study – Form (C) for the extension project within Hayat’ s plant in Sokhna (Phase II) to manufacture dry and liquid detergents and plastic bags.
  • The study included: a description of the project, its objectives, inputs & outputs, the relevant environmental laws and regulations, baseline environment of the project site, and project alternatives.
  • For analysis of project’s impacts, Environics used the modified Leopold matrix as consistent with the environmental components at the project’s site.  The impacts were evaluated in terms of their importance, and appropriate measures were proposed to prevent/reduce/mitigate these impacts and achieve environmental compliance during construction and operation.
  • The study also included an outline of the Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan and findings of the Public Consultation meeting that was held in Sokhna with the project’ stakeholders.
