ElMarakby for Metallic Industries was planning a project for manufacturing billet from scrap iron. The project entailed adding a crude billet production unit to the existing reinforcing bars plant at the Industrial Area of 6th of October City. Such extension of operations necessitated an EIA, according to the Egyptian environmental laws and regulations. ElMarakby commissioned Environics to carry out the EIA for the project.
According to the Egyptian EIA regulations, this project required a Form B EIA. The scope of the EIA encompassed air emissions; noise; work environment; waste management, and industrial wastewater management.
Environics studied the components and processes of the project at the construction and operation phases, and discussed the project’s alternatives. The baseline environment was described and the environmental impacts were detailed and analyzed, along with a presentation of mitigation measures. The EIA included environmental management and monitoring plans, and reported on the public consultation meetings.
