EIA for New Extensions of Galaxy Chemicals Egypt, Attaqa, Suez

Share:
  • Galaxy Chemicals Egypt was planning to construct and operate an extension within its facility premises located in Attaqa Public Free Zone, Suez, to produce various nonionic surfactants and specialty chemicals, used as raw materials for personnel and home care products, and commissioned Environics to prepare the required EIA for the proposed project.
  • Environics prepared a Scoped-B EIA study covering the construction and operation phases of the proposed extension that required increasing the capacity of existing Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), as well as adding few service units (i.e. tanks, cooling tower, chiller, air compressor and other units).
  • The scope of work entailed reviewing relevant project information (i.e. previous EIA reports, baseline site characteristics, latest environmental measurements provided, etc.), as well as conducting a field visit to Galaxy facility to be familiar of the location of the extension and update the previous knowledge of the surrounding activities.
  • The study report was prepared, including: scope and objective of the EIA, importance of the extensions, the legal and administrative framework, project description, baseline conditions, analysis of alternatives, assessment of the potential Environmental Impacts and the relevant mitigation measures, as well as the framework for the Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan.
  • Moreover, Technical support was provided during the study review period by EEAA.
